hahaha i was tempted, but i knew i would be killed for it.

I strongly disagree with your ranking of EPL, other than that it's okay, I would have put the French above the Dutch but hey.

well you didn't specify what kind of quality in the question. In terms of playing quality and excitement value, La Liga is head and shoulders above everyone else but if you want to be all tardy and talk about the quality of specific players abilities then EPL takes it

yeah that's what I mean Tim, the EPL relies a lot more on individualism which still looks cool but La Liga has the teamwork part nailed

hahahah i find it funny that you are saying that the English game is skill based. What the EPL has over the other leagues is speed and physicality. I personally think that La Liga is more individually skillful, the English game relies almost entirely on teamwork, it may not be as 'flashy' as the passing in La Liga, but it is as effective.

i was thinking the same as well... la liga is probably more skill based individually than the epl

but then in my mind la liga has better team play than epl also...

so my conclusion is that spanish league rules

bah humbug. You don't know tactical team work until you watch Serie A. Serie A is so ridiculously tactical and awesome but EPL relies on players being stronger and faster and better at tackling, whereas La Liga is a lot more free flowing and tricksy.

opinions, opinions, opinions. The issue here is that the three leagues are all good at 'one' aspect of the game. Physicality in England, Skill in Spain, and tactics in Italy. For one to be classed as the 'best' in the world, one would suppose that that league would have to surpass all the others in these areas. However this cannot be the case, and is not what we are arguing really. What we are arguing is which league we enjoy watching the most.

I LOVE THE TERM GOD AWFUL.

its so good that theres a chance of it becoming overused and annoying. so lets all make a vow to only use it when something truely is god awful (and that everton vs chelsea game was god awful)

max its like chelsea, a few months ago both madrid and chels were playing amazing... now theyre not

    ok but seriously

drenthe was madrid's most positive player in the clasico (sniejder was great until injured) and those were the two good attacking points to take out of that game for madrid. the past few madrid games robben (who has been pretty much the only dutch player playing for madrid lately) has been the sole good player for madrid who isnt having a bad game. everything has been going through him.

van der vaart i will admit isnt playing well (deco at chels? good normally just having a bad patch).

conclusion: it is NOT the dutch players that are causing madrid's averageness at the moment. in fact the dutchmen that are being played are really looking a lot better than the rest of the madridstas.

    END

TIM THAT POST WAS GOD AWFUL

Chelsea were rolling 5 goals past teams with their reserve squad while madrid were scraping wins relying on Van Der Vaart who is not good enough for madrid. Sneijder has been injured and it is now proven that without Van Nist they are a pathetic team. NEVER compare Madrid earlier this season to Chelsea earlier this season. Madrid were riding their luck and Chelsea were unplayable.

    Post  BrynJ_SE7 Fri Dec 26, 2008 11:27 am

Hey max, how about we try to be, at least, very slightly impartial towards this discussion. You either say Chelsea are playing woefully, as they, supposudly are now, or are playing the best football any team has played ever in the history of football. Now I know it is hard for us fans, but try to make a little more sense.

Tim is not saying that Madrid played fluent attacking football that was compared to Barca, as Chelsea did, he is saying that they were playing WELL, this means that they were winning. Besides, a team can play well without looking flashy, attractive football is not the be all and end all in football.

So the comparison Tim is making, is between the overall form of the teams and the overall level of performance. Chelsea were playing very well, and getting results whilst playing the fluent passing game that is associated with beautiful football. Madrid were, on the other hand, playing a differant style but still getting the results. Both teams were performing up to their massive reputations and abilities.

Now, I come to my second gripe with your post. You cannot say that Madrid are a worse team than Chelsea, and that when they are winning they are "riding their luck". Madrid are consistantly amoung the best teams in Europe and historically, along with Manchester United are the most succesfull team in European footballing history. So for you, a supporter of a fairly new club on the European stage to say that they are "riding their luck" requires a very large amount of audacity, which is fairly typical of Chelsea fans, players and staff.

So in closure Max, your last post was GOD AWFUL.

Post  Max Sat Dec 27, 2008 5:16 am

Tim's post clearly makes no reference to style of play. It just says that both teams were playing amazing. WRONG. Madrid were slugging out one goal margin victories and nothing more, where (you cannot deny this) Chelsea were untouchable. Results are results but a 5-0 win is somewhat more convincing that 1-0. And goal difference does matter in the league so you cannot say that 5-0 results and 1-0 results are just as good as each other. My other gripe with your post is that just because I support Chelsea and they happen to do well it does not make your opinion any better than mine. And anyway just because my opinion of my team is not "OMG we can win evryfingz!" and actually has some substance to it, it doesn't make it whining. If you still want to complain about me having an opinion go write blog.

Tell me something, were Madrid beaten in that time, or did their 1-0 victories still count as 3 points? The manner in which a victory occurs does not automatically translate into the "untouchability" of that team. Madrid winning 1-0 may allow them to be as untouchable as Chelsea were they win with heavy margins. Chelsea may well be winning more convincingly but Madrid were, nonetheless untouchable.

If you don't remember, let me remind you. Madrid lost their first match of La Liga 2-0 to Deportivo, whereas Chelsea were unbeaten until Liverpool came a knocking in the 14 round. Excuse the disgusting connotations to pervertion, but madrid were touchable, and haven't been at the top of their league all season.
