Ramos at Madrid?
Is it just me or is anyone else VERY surprised to see Ramos, a) managing again so soon after his debarcle at Spurs, and b) managing such a MASSIVE club as the Galacticos Real Madrid???

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
i was surprised but it makes sense.
im also interested in his declared policy of continuing [owner of madrid]'s vision of starting an all-dutch eleven by 2010.

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
you are so increadibly wrong. Just becuase they are not performing does not mean they have no quality. How can you say Van Nist, Raul, Robben, Sneijder(sorry spelling), Van der Vaart, im not going to list all their good players, it should be self explanitory, Madrid have possibly the most talented squad in the world.

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
You've just listed all their talent (+Casillas and Sergio Ramos). They have enough to make a first team of talented players but they totally lack depth, especially in their backline (which can barely call itself up to standard as it is)

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
i agree their backline is poor, but to say that Madrid have NO chance of winning a cup is absurd in my opinion. How can you discount arguably the most successful club in the world?

Past success means nothing, you can look no further than Leeds to see my point

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
wasnt leeds like totally finiancial? madrid do not need to worry on the money front.
madrid have immense quality i agree with bryn. and on the bench they have players like either sneijder/vaart (the two don't usually get to play together), drenthe(!!!!), huiguian will be on bench when injuries arent so major (and huntelaar is coming in to add more depth).
if they buy one or two decent defenders in january as well as huntelaar then they could easily go on to win the champions league.

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
They would need more than one or two, at least four in my opinion. The only quality defender they have if Sergio Ramos, Canavarro is old, Pepe is an idiot, Metzelder is incredibly injury prone and Drenthe is too attacking!

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
I dissagree Canavaro is a decent centre back, along with Metzelder it would prove to be decent centre-back pairing, Ramos and Salgado are both good right backs, they just do not have a good left back, I'm sorry Tim but Drenthe is more of a winger than a back. Their backline is their weakness and the rest of their team is amazing.
And yes, Leeds was financial, they got relegated as they had to sell all their players to avoid liquidation, you do not go from Europe to Championship in one season.

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
Canavarro is OLD and only has a few years left in him (and has mentioned that he wants to play in Italy before he retires), Metzelder is decent but cannot be relied on, and Salgado is a shadow of his former self, he is ageing also and cannot keep the pace for 90 minutes. See el Clasico for a good representation of all his performances so far this year

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
Yes, as i said they do need to improve their defense, however they have enough class in their backline to make them one of the best teams in Europe. Combine their average defence with an outstanding midfield and attack you get a formidable team, that is well capable of winning a cup or two.

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
They totally lack sufficient defence for them to be anything more than a cup team. The only reason they won a few games up until now was because of Mahamadou Diarra and he is now injured for a long time. Goodbye Madrid

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
of course theyd need to get more defenders in summer max but im talking about january and whether they can keep up form in the champions league and for that they only really need 1 or 2 defenders in january.
cannavaro does not need replacing as early as january.

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
Ramos has made a good buy in my opinion. Diarra is the sort of player that is very useful for a defensivly inept team such as Madrid. It also gives cover for M. Diarra who, as Max pointed out, carried the team. So Ramos has made a decent start to his Madrid career. He, however, has been linked to buying Ashley Young from Villa, so I hope to the greatest extent that this does not come to pass, as Madrid are notorious for ruining English players careers, look at Owen, Woodgate, Beckham(up to a point).

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
ok i understand why you say woodgate because he promised to be a lot better than he is but his career certainly hasn't been ruined.
also beckham was great at real madrid - especially in his last season there (despite being dropped for a small period). anyone that says differently simply wasn't watching many of madrid's games at the time.
madrid now have two cdm's called diarra lol

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
Lassana Diarra is an excellent buy for madrid, and Lassana Diarra has had the most illustrious career for someone who hasn't even reached their prime, (at age 24 (i think)) having played for Chelsea, Arsenal, Portsmouth and now Real Madrid

Re: Ramos at Madrid?
I know that Beckham did not underperform at Madrid, but Owen and Woodgate certainly did, but as i was talking about all the english players to play there in recent history i added Beckham. So in my opinion 2 out of 3 had a dissapointing time in Madrid.
