That was because the deal was almost finalised. And if someone was going to hand in a transfer request it must have been because they were desperate to leave, these people do not U-Turn and when the deal is about to go through refuse saying that they cannot bear to leave the club. It makes no sense, quote media sources until you are blue in the face(mind the pun) but one can never be sure of the validity of these.
